Paradoxalement, le peuple de la Bible - qui vit en bordure de la Méditerranée - ne s'est jamais lancé dans l'aventure maritime et n'a pas développé de littérature sur ce sujet. Pourtant la Bible parle de la mer et a une certaine connaissance du milieu maritime. L'homme de la Bible ne voit pas seulement en elle un aspect de la puissance de Dieu, il y trouve aussi le lieu de la louange.

Paradoxically, the people in the Bible - who live on the banks of the Mediterranean - never set out for adventure on the high seas, and never developed any literature on the subject. Yet the Bible speaks of the sea and shows a certain knowledge of the maritime universe. Biblical man does not only see an aspect of God's power in the oceans, he also finds there a place of worship.
