The author shows that the French Church of the 17th 18th centuries was, if anything, less misogynist than other representatives of civic society (magistrates, doctors, philosophers). The Church often defended women in their struggle for the right to a specific education denounced the 'vocations' of young girls in traditional families who were forced into convents. It demanded an essential place for the woman in family life and children's education, established the marriage laws in favor of the woman offered women - within the parish, congregations, abbeys - exceptional social and intellectual promotion. This essay shows the danger of the anachronism of modern opinion, that analyses specific cultural periods with today's vision and criteria on the equality of sexes."
