The intolerable injustices created by the prevailing economic system represent clear violations of human rights and are obviously the consequences of decisions taken by man. Those responsible exist: they must be found, identified, judged and condemned if found guilty. Some examples of the struggle against impunity for the authors of economic crimes prove that this is possible and the fight is worth fighting. Seemingly simple from the ethical viewpoint, these issues are very complex to deal with practically. The author— who wrote a previous book about the fight against impunity for political crimes— adopts a pedagogical approach and possesses great knowledge of the subject. She brings us a fascinating book that is also easy to read. After putting us in the picture" by recalling some intolerable situations that did not come about by accident, she shows that an approach to economic injustices via human rights - a new and as yet little used proposition regarding economic, social and cultural rights - would allow us to approach questions of responsibility, and the fight against the impunity of those who seriously violate economic and social rights, in a new way. A thought-provoking and somewhat comforting book for our times of economic crisis."
