"Well-known as a benevolent personal protector, the guardian angel's history is a long one. In Catholicism, the link between the heavenly protector and a collective or individual identity resembles the patronal relation specific to the cult of saints. Yet the protecting angel is both anonymous and exclusive. In this way, it differs from the patron saint, from angels in general and archangels. It is likely to adapt to different levels of religiosity, some of which do not conform to official clerical discourse. This very special history, as well as contemporary manifestations of the phenomenon, are the subject of this book which takes care to avoid speculative discussion on spiritual beings to bring us a brief history of the devotion to guardian angels in - but also around - Catholicism!"
