This biography not only covers the fifteen years when Loisy was in the centre of the debate on biblical exegesis - after the publication of L'Evangile et l'église in 1902 -, but also a whole life of research spent trying to reconcile the tradition of the Church with the spirit of modern times. Emile Goichot uses Loisy's autobiographical texts to tell the story of a great intellectual adventure, where friendship held pride of place. Mgr. Mignot, Baron von Hügel, Abbey Bremond they all played, with Loisy, an essential role in the debates that took place at the beginning of the century. Emile Goichot, Ph. D., taught modern and contemporary literature at the University Marc-Bloch in Strasbourg between 1970 and 1990. He has also published many articles on Catholic intellectuals.
