An emigrant from Russia, Mother Marie Skobstov is an artist, poetess and a famous woman of action. This richly illustrated book is the first ever devoted to the life and art of Mother Marie. She was renowned as a poet of the ‘Silver Age' in Russia, but not as well-known as an artist as she deserved. Right at the beginning of her artistic creation, she aspired to knowledge of God. With time, she moved away from modernism and found her place in poetic and pictorial symbolism. The work of Mother Marie - paintings, prints, embroideries - is superbly expressive and is conserved by European art collectors, or in Orthodox churches in France and the UK. Few of her visual works have been diffused.
