The aim of this book is to make readers capable of reading ancient Greek without a dictionary or a translation, just as they might read English or Spanish. To make Greek a living language, ‘Polis' applies those methods used today in modern language teaching: an oral approach, simple dialogues, varied exercises and gradual progression. Whether working alone or under the guidance of a teacher, the student is immersed in the language. The book helps memorize forms and vocabulary. You read only Greek, and in the end, you speak it too. After two years, readers will be able to read a simple narrative text without the help of a dictionary. ‘Polis' is an initiation to Koine Greek, the dialect in which the vast majority of Hellenist works were produced, from Alexander's conquests to the end of Antiquity.
